Here is a curly one for animal rights activists: A business owner refused to interview a Nigerian job seeker on the grounds that his dog didn't like him because he was black. When the local labour office accused the businessman of racism, he told a newspaper, "The dog is racist. Not me." Sounds like the ultimate attempt at passing the buck. But what if he was being genuine, and the dog is a bigot? If a dog is a sentient, moral being, deserving of rights, he has a right to a (flawed) opinion just as humans do, doesn't he? And isn't it speciesist to ignore that right? So, who was discriminated against the most? The black guy for being denied a chance at the gig, or the dog for not having his "voice heard"?
