Who says Iran has a culture that's oppressive to women?  The mullahs are SNAGs of the highest order.  In the interests of liberating chicks they plan to set aside a whole island just for them! 

Under Iran's strict Islamic law, mixing with men in public is forbidden. Strict sex segregation actually protects women rather than restricting their rights, officials argue.

This is perfectly in keeping with the kind of separatist feminist teaching you'll find in women's studies courses in many Western universities.  I reckon the only reservations our academics would have would be about the Iranians' aim of boosting tourism.  Too pro-capitalist, see. 

No wonder Western feminists are so reluctant to criticize Islam.
