I was quite surprised that Latham's Labor decided to try and out-Lib the Libs by promising to abolish ATSIC. I know heaps of arty wankers who should be up in arms about this. But no, that would require spine, and integrity - two qualities about as rare as hens' balls in the bong-fogged cul de sacs of Artsville. And why bite the hand that feeds them? If they were even remotely critical, they might not get their next grant. So, we have this double standard: When the Libs attack the obvious racism inherent in the separatist ideology that produced ATSIC (and which has also turned it into a complete disaster) they are denounced as "racist". When Labor does the same thing - and more assertively - they are being "realistic". And just imagine all the sanctimonious squittering from the media fluffs if it were Howard, not Latham, who'd made this first, major proposal? Here's another case illustrating the pervasive anti-Howard bias, this time from ATSIC commisioner Ray Robinson. Latham moves to abolish Robinson's own treasured organisation, and he uses this to condemn Howard more than Latham. Amazing, isn't it? |
