Hillary Clinton and Jenna Jameson
06.30.07 (5:22 am)   [edit]

This isn't up-to-the minute news, but it's still interesting, I reckon ...

See, Hillary Clinton recently received an endorsement from an unexpected source, porn star Jenna Jameson.

Jameson had this to say about Hillary's other half:  "The Clinton administration was the best years for the adult industry and I wish that Clinton would run again."

Speaking of unexpected sources, just replace "adult industry" with "al-Qaida" and those words could have been muttered by Osama bin Laden.

The Democrats sure have wide appeal, don't they?

Rapper Xzibits ignorance
06.25.07 (11:35 pm)   [edit]

Here's another little ruckus illustrating how the word "racist" has lost all meaning.  Citing absolutely no e vidence, rapper Xzibit has accused Rove Live production staff of racism.  Australians may recall a similar beat-up involving Grant Denyer

Won't be long we'll see another Xzibition of PC posturing, I reckon.

Comrades in the navy?
06.22.07 (8:34 pm)   [edit]

In light of this highly effective employment of "colourful language" in a standoff with Iranian sailors, I'd imagine that the Australian Navy is considering employing masters of the art to train the new recruits.

If so, I suggest they should look to the union movement.  It's chockas with potty-mouthed blowhards.  And if Paul Keating is right and it's "dying on the vine" the likes of Dean Mighell and Joe Mcdonald will soon be out of a gig.  They will appreciate being employed teaching something they're really good at

Racist dog or racist master?
06.11.07 (3:55 am)   [edit]

Here is a curly one for animal rights activists:  A business owner refused to interview a Nigerian job seeker on the grounds that his dog didn't like him because he was black.

When the local labour office accused  the businessman of racism, he told a newspaper, "The dog is racist.  Not me."

Sounds like the ultimate attempt at passing the buck.  But what if he was being genuine, and the dog is a bigot?  If a dog is a sentient, moral being, deserving of rights, he has a right to a (flawed) opinion just as humans do, doesn't he?  And isn't it speciesist to ignore that right?

So, who was discriminated against the most?  The black guy for being denied a chance at the gig, or the dog for not having his "voice heard"?

Blogs invert traditional business model
06.09.07 (4:13 am)   [edit]

In days of yore publishers were few and far between.  They needed (among many other things) large buildings to house their operations, highly trained staff, expensive printing presses, and squillions to get the ball rolling.  Once their operations were up and running they attracted readers to their news, and then, with so many pairs of eyeballs looking their way, they made moolah by selling ad space on their publications.

But now, in the internet age, the inverse is possible.  See, anyone can be a publisher (including yours truly).  And we can make money by putting news (as well as ads) on our publications (that is, blogs).

Here's one site promoting this new approach.  I'm sure many more will follow.

Lindsay Lohan and "estranged father" syndrome
06.02.07 (3:45 am)   [edit]

What is it with troubled female stars and their fathers

I can recall others who either feud with their dads or don't speak to them: Angelina Jolie and Tatum O'Neal.  Then of course there's Oprah Winfrey.

It seems that their troubles are strongly related to this syndrome.  Might be what's driven them to be so successful, too ...

Interesting.

Another way of blogging for cash
06.02.07 (3:15 am)   [edit]

I wrote earlier about how you can make money by posting reviews -- and blatant advertorials -- on your own blog.  You can also earn by writing for group blogs in a weblogging community.  This looks like the more lucrative option.
