Mark Scott-Crossley
09.30.05 (6:12 pm)   [edit]
This is amazing. A South African called Mark Scott-Crossley has been found guilty of murdering a black worker by throwing him to lions.

The case is bizarre and horrific enough. But what makes it even more ghoulish is the fact that the accused married a woman just before the sentence was passed.

Reminds me of the case of serial killer Ted Bundy, who had a whole legion of female fans. (I think he even married one -- or became engaged to her? -- in the courthouse during his trial.)

That cliche about women being attracted to "bad boys" is sadly often very true.

Why hate America?

Sydneysiders interested in world affairs might like to attend this debate on the question "Why hate America?".  Further details can be found here

Rita the city eater
09.23.05 (5:34 pm)   [edit]
When Katrina hit, ferndies had a field day blaming Dubya and his anti-planet policies. Now, with Rita, they have what I'm sure they believe is absolute confirmation of the link.

My rational side says that their argument is false, or tenuous at best. Correlation does not necessarily imply causation, after all.

Still, part of me is thinking: "Two monster hurricanes in quick succession ... Maybe it is a sign of real, man-made climate change?"

Ugh. I think I might be transforming into a greenie.

Now I know how Dr Jekyll felt.

More slackness ...
09.17.05 (1:05 am)   [edit]
Again, I feel guilty for not posting here lately.  But I haven't been completely idle; have just been writing abut local matters.

Last time it was about Brogden.  Now, it's about Latham.

These events have a weird continuity: Each involved the fall of a young man from power; each had a sexual scandal (or scuttlebutt) at its core.

They have a kind of yin-yangish quality, too: Broggers' saga was a silvertail scandal.  Latham's book is a boofhead's blast.

Spooky, eh?

What did we ever do to them?
09.06.05 (3:52 pm)   [edit]
While surfing recently I came upon the most intriguingly bizarre blog description I've ever seen:

America Hates Us!

Thoughts from a couple in Brooklyn who don't understand why America obviously fucking hates them and wants them dead, as if 9/11 weren't enough already, and we were actually there, and no, we aren't going to watch that miniseries.

WTF?

Sorry for being slack and not posting lately.  But I have written heaps about the John Brogden downfall over at my other home
